Potential mistakes

Problem #1 Money

Solution- A possible solution for a shortage of money would be to cut costs on advertisement and come up with a strategic cost-effective way to create a profit by saving money on unnecessary costs.

Problem #2 Lack of employees

Solution- A lack of employees is a large potential problem. If in worst case scenario,  the business does not have enough employees, then the idea can be transferred to an app or online programme.

Problem #3 unsuccessful business

Solution

If schools are not interested in the programme we can choose a new targets such as parents of teenagers, caregivers or other well-being programmes. We might need to change some of the activities depending on the target audience.

Intellectual Property & Branding

3 Potential Brand Names

  • Stress camp

This name is the original name for the programme, however perhaps it doesn’t quite communicate what the programme is offering. The programme is not a camp and it doesn’t purely focus on stress. Even though this brand name is original, it doesn’t really describe our company.

  • Youth mental health programme (YMHP)

This name is quite straightforward and not at all creative. However, it does describe the company and communicate its purpose to the author. By taking the first letters of the title- YMHP, it makes it slightly easier to remember and say.

  • RUOK (are you okay)

RUOK is a catchy title using language that teens might use, in order to communicate to them. Unfortunately it is already taken by numerous companies and programmes.

I think that overall, the best possible name would be YMHP. though it is not as catchy as possible, it communicates clearly and is easy to remember.

Market Plan

Sales you hope to achieve

I hope to provide my programme to at least 30 schools in SA. The fees weekly would be roughly – $500. 500×30=15000 Per year- $540000 MAX

Cost of goods sold

The fees weekly would be roughly $50- $100.  Per year- $90000 MAX

Business cost

Employees, uniforms, advertisement and transport would be very costly.

Employees- $200 per session. We need roughly 5 employees that travel to schools each week. So costly each week that would be $1000. We need 5 more employees to manage advertisement, communication and technology. $2000 spend on employees.

5x laptops = $7500

Advertisement- $1500

T-shirts- $110

Equipment- $1000

The profit

-7500+1500+110+60000=69110

90000-71000= Roughly $19000

Communication strategy

Target market

My target market is middle or secondary schools around Urban Australia with students with metal health issues or suffering from stress for the ages of 10-17. The target market varies from students to teachers to the government.

Communication objective

My Communication objective is definitely a combination of emotional and moral. It is emotional as it targets mental wellbeing and the happiness of students. It is also moral as it will improve many factors in a student’s life and will overall benefit more than just the target market.

Media type

The message will get out there hopefully through social media/website or word of mouth. Any advertisement might seem unprofessional and desperate.  Because it is a government related issue, government involvement would be appreciated and might help recommendation throughout schools.

Message Source

My company won’t benefit from a celebrity or an established person marketing it, as the target market(schools) won’t take notice. My company has to speak to schools and perhaps even give a free session before it is sold to schools, to give them an idea of what it is and what it does.

Marketing Plan

Idea for a partner

Given the product addresses a government related issue, we could talk to the Australian institution of health and wellbeing and the education system to create a fully government approved system. This may make our product seem more reliable and professional.

Product

Our product needs a logo and a uniform for staff which won’t cost that much. There are numerous websites such as ‘logomaker’ that allow you to print your logo on shirts, mugs, pencil cases and pens. This would only cost a small sum of money- $20-50 per 20.

Price

Comparable products are quite rare and none charge fees. This is because they are government run. Fees shouldn’t be charged excessively however, if it is not government funded then it would need to charge per session.

Position

This product can’t be low end or schools wouldn’t be interested, nor can it be high end, because schools don’t excessively spend money. I believe that my product is medium/middle to be represented as reliable but cheap.

Promotion

Promotion is certainly difficult, however travel, logos, government promotion and social media sites should spread the message fairly quickly, and once one consumer has purchased, others might do the same.

Strategies

Some possible strategies to combat the weaknesses and challenges are-

Finding a suitable money plan

Money is one of the main weaknesses that my business might face. Coming up with a careful and strategic money spending plan can help my business come up with a safe spending plan that focuses primarily on finding the correct resources it needs, e.g psychiatrists, counsellors, employees and marketing sources. Receiving possible government funding through working along with government well being policies could help start off the business.

Making business unique and relatable

By taking customer feedback and using it, we could improve activities accordingly and create new activities t at become increasingly popular. Taking advantage of the fact that it is a modern business, social media and technology could be used in order to capture the desired audience’s attention and become a relatable programme that uses modern technology knowledge to intrigue teens and primary school children.

Promotion through schools

The next thing a business needs to think about is creating a good reputation and taking time to become popular over a big scale. Starting off slow and giving free sessions all around South Australia could make people aware of our business. Creating a good reputation amongst schools and parents is especially important as the education system is continually improving and looking for new ways to become unique and cater for all student’s needs. By presenting the business as an option, it could capture schools’ attention and become a new ‘thing’ that all schools are willing to give a go, if it could improve their education system.

My Idea

Mission- My mission is to improve the overall mental wellbeing of school children in Australia and create a fully functional education system, to help young adults of teenagers suffering from depression or anxiety and to encourage stress activities such as meditation, yoga, cooking and sport.

Vision- My vision for this issue is to create a programme in all schools that checks in with all of the student’s mental well being and encourages positivity and stress relief. The programme should support all students and allow them to relax, become aware of themselves and interact with peers in a friendly manner.  It should be cost efficient and receive government support.

Threats- Possible threats to my idea are-

Other organisations. Other organisations such as Ylead, Mind and CAMHS might prove competition in the market as they are already popular children’s mental health organisations. Need to build up popularity.

Opportunities. Some opportunities are-

Being able to access a young audience through schools which is the audience that influences the most through social pressure and social media. Also, one of the only mental health organisations targeted at children. Could create relatable resources such as apps and social media sites.

Strengths- Some possible strengths are-

Increasing popularity for mental wellbeing especially in schools.  Could receive government funding. One of the only children’s mental health organisations that actually COMES to schools. By being founded in a modern age means using modern resources and could potentially use social media and apps to relate to students.

Weaknesses- Some weaknesses are-

Advertisement costs to promote business to begin with, costs and resources to find psychiatrists and counsellors. Possible unpopularity throughout schools as practises are undeveloped and not compulsory for students.  Promotion, competition and costs are the main weaknesses.

My Entrepreneurial Idea

My entrepreneurial idea is a stress camp programme at school. The stress camp programme helps students at school get on top of their mental health. This includes weekly meditation, apps and activity days. The stress camp is an organisation that comes to schools to encourage their programme. So many students at school struggle with social, work related and domestic stress. If a student is feeling stressed they can simply explain situation to a teacher who signs them up for stress camp. Once a week, students suffering from stress/depression meet up and participate in proven helpful activities such as meditation, yoga, reflection, cooking and sport.

It is desirable because so many students (particularly teenagers) suffer from depression influenced by bullying, stress, domestic violence and personal issues. It would be such a relief to have help dealing with these situations.

This is a unique programme as it actually comes comes to schools and works individually with students in order to improve their well being. It is not compulsory such as a subject but will reoccur once every week.

These activities are focus on group work and personal wellbeing. Students will be in groups to allow them to be comfortable with others and learn how to work together. Students will greatly benefit from this programme as it will relieve stress and allow them to battle their problems with others. It focuses on mental and physical health, positivity and the enjoyment of learning. It is cheap for schools and free for the students.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

What is an entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is someone who doesn’t accept problems or work around them, but tries to solve them. An entrepreneur is creative, ambitious and proactive, dreaming big and taking risks. They think of remarkable ideas and present them to the public in remarkable ways.

When can you become an entrepreneur?

You can be an entrepreneur at the age you begin to think like an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is about how you view life and think, not about opening a business or inventing a product. The younger you begin thinking like an entrepreneur, the better of an entrepreneur you will be.

What are some traits that make an entrepreneur?

Some traits that an entrepreneur requires, are

Open mindedness

Open mindedness is important for an entrepreneur, because it allows you to accept different ideas, praise other people and take all problems into consideration.

Ambitious

To be ambitious is also important, as it allows entrepreneurs to step outside their comfort zone, try hard, accept mistakes and pursue their dreams in order to make a difference.

Creative

Creativeness is very important, as it helps you dream big, not accept the status quo and think of all the ideas that make a difference.

Choose an entrepreneur. When did they begin thinking like an entrepreneur?

Lorna Jane Clarkson began thinking like an entrepreneur when she was working as a dental therapist and began catering for people’s demand for fashionable active wear. She opened her first store in 1993.

How did they become an entrepreneur?

By acting on this idea and opening a store, facing failure along the way, Lorna became an entrepreneur.

What traits do they have to make them an entrepreneur?

Lorna Clarkson has expanded her business rapidly, showing her ambitious ideas and actions. Even though, people told her that this business isn’t likely to make a profit, she took the risk and proved them wrong.

Now extremely successful, Lorna has shown courage, creativity, ambitious actions and risk taking along the way to her success, making her a successful entrepreneur.

What skills does this person have?

Lorna is also renowned for her innovative designs, ability to listen to people’s feedback and complaints, taking their ideas into consideration to make her business even better.

Would Australia’s economy be impacted without entrepreneurs?

Australia’s reputation benefits immensely from entrepreneurs and their ideas. Entrepreneurs are the people that think of new ideas to sell to the people. It is an entrepreneur’s job to make sure that people buy their product, so without entrepreneurs, no-one would spend money on these products, therefore influencing the overall economy of our country.

Do you have what it takes to become an entrepreneur?

I think everyone has what it takes to become an entrepreneur, they just need lessons and persistence. You can be an entrepreneur in many different ways, not necessarily devoting yourself to the job. You can promote ideas in the arts, fashion, technology and many other industries, so anyone can have this frame of mind. Personally, I think I need to work on my acceptance of failure, as we all need to fail in order to succeed and I can’t accept failure. However, I have some qualities such as creativity and problem solving.
